The infamous jury duty scam returns to Stafford County.
The Sheriff’s Office says a Stafford citizen reported an attempted scam. The citizen received a call from someone posing as “Jason Dembowski,” noting the fact the caller did not provide his rank. The suspect informed the citizen she missed jury duty and would be arrested “today” for not showing up.
Thinking this was a scam, the suspect was questioned on who the Sheriff was. After a noticeable pause, the citizen knew this was a scam call. The Sheriff’s Office says the citizen went above and beyond to check with Stafford Courts to ensure she did not miss jury duty.
The Sheriff’s Office says if you receive a call from anyone posing as a deputy asking for money, it’s a scam. You’re advised to hang up immediately and inform the Sheriff’s Office.
