In a workshop prior to the start of the regular meeting, school division staff will provide an update on the fiscal year 2026 budget with developments from the state and county included. There will also be updates on the master plan for facilities, which is a hot topic right now in the county.

The Caroline Board of Supervisors and school board will continue to discuss ways to handle growth in the county as it relates to school space. The supervisors rejected four plans from RRMM Architects, but may consider aspects of those plans. They asked school officials to return with a short-term plan and a long-term plan to address space concerns. Those options will be presented and discussed at this meeting.

Fredericksburg

City Council work session/public hearing on budget, Tuesday, 6/7 p.m.

Fredericksburg’s City Council is advertising an increase in the real estate tax of six cents per $100 in assessed value, a number they settled on with projected dips in sales and meals tax revenue in mind. Due to uncertainty with federal funding and fears of a “localized depression,” the body has also discussed appropriating 90% of City Manager Tim Baroody’s recommended FY 2026 budget, which totals $136.7 million. City council will hold an additional hearing on the real estate tax rate on April 22.

King George County

Board of supervisors regular meeting, Tuesday, 5:30 p.m.

The Davis Hill Solar project is requesting a special exception for a solar facility at 8209 Daisy Lane. The proposed project is on 12 acres, and developers stated it will provide discounted, clean energy 10-15% below the utility rate. Developers are also claiming the project will generate enough electricity for 679 average households across the nation annually. Davis Hill, if approved, will participate in the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation Pollinator Smart Program, according to a presentation scheduled for the meeting.

Spotsylvania County

School board regular meeting, Monday, 5:30 p.m. 

  • Update on the 2025 Capital Improvement Plan

The school administration, led by Superintendent Clint Mitchell, is requesting that the board votes to purchase stop arm cameras to protect students entering or exiting a school bus. The division cites National Highway Traffic Safety Administration research that shows students entering or exiting a school bus on the roadway are at risk from motorists, particularly at stops where they need to cross the road. SCPS conducted a survey to review commuter behavior at designated bus stops, and based on those one-week results, staff is recommending  adding stop arm cameras to county school buses.
