Two survive small-plane crash in Spotsylvania County

A small plane crashed in Spotsylvania County on Wednesday, but the two people on board survived, the Virginia State Police said.

The crash happened in the 11000 block of Scarlet Oak Road, state police said, and the initial call came in about 3:08 p.m.

The plane, a Beechcraft, had taken off from Leesburg en route to Hampton Roads. The pilot reported an oil pressure issue and attempted to make an emergency landing in a field, authorities said.

The two people on board were taken to Mary Washington Hospital with minor injuries.

The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board have been notified, state police said.
