Fast forecast

More temperature swings the weekend

  • Cloudy cool Saturday, but some afternoon sun

  • Windy and much warmer Sunday

  • Soaking rain Sunday night and Monday

The warm air that surged into the Fredericksburg region on Thursday will hit a speed bump Friday night and Saturday, as the wind turns from the northeast, bringing in a cloudy and cooler period into Saturday morning.

No rain is expected for the UMW Multicultural Fair, but it will be a cloudy and cool start with temperatures in the 50s for several hours before sun breaks through the clouds later in the afternoon and sends temperatures back toward 70 degrees.

After a much warmer Sunday, a slow moving system drags across Virginia Sunday night and Monday, bringing numerous periods of rain, finally ending on Monday afternoon or evening.

Once that system moves away, dry and much cooler air settles in for a couple of days, holding afternoons in the 50s and sending lows deep into the 30s on Tuesday and Wednesday nights. There is a legitimate chance of frost on those nights, and areas north into Stafford County and west into Spotsylvania County may even get below freezing for a couple of hours.

Normal temperatures next week:

  • Highs: Mid 60s

  • Lows: Low 40s
