The Spotsylvania County All-Abilities All-Stars Special Games will receive a boost from a former NFL star wide receiver this weekend.

Santana Moss, a Pro Bowl performer for Washington who played with the franchise from 2005-14, will sign autographs at Legend’s Grille at 10500 Spotsylvania Avenue on Saturday from 1-2 p.m.

All proceeds from the $30 autographs and $5 pictures will go toward the annual Special Games, which will be held April 4 at Massaponax High School.

Rich Lieberman, a Spotsylvania School Board candidate in the Lee Hill District who has a special needs son at Massaponax, coordinated with Legend’s to put on the fundraiser. Massaponax staff will be on hand collecting the funds.

While the Panthers host the event, it is for all special needs students in the county.

“It’s basically a field day Special Olympics-type of event, but just for Spotsylvania County students,” Lieberman explained… “The thing is the school system doesn’t fund it. They support it, but they don’t fund it. So Massaponax fundraises to put this on.”

Massaponax special education teacher Christina Odyniec is one of the primary coordinators of the event.

Lieberman said he leaned on his background as a booking agent for athletes to secure Moss, who previously attended an event in support of the Fredericksburg Area Food Bank.

“I’ve worked with Santana many times,” Lieberman said. “He’s a great guy.”

Moss starred at the University of Miami and was drafted by the New York Jets with the 16th overall pick in the 2001 NFL Draft. He was traded to Washington in 2005, which was his best season with the team, as he finished with 1,483 receiving yards and nine touchdowns.

Moss now works as a commentator and analyst, covering the Washington Commanders. He is the host of a podcast called the “Command Center.”
