The Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office made an arrest Thursday in the January double homicide of Charles Childress and Kimberly Newcomb.
Childress, 61, and Newcomb, 59, were found shot to death in the 10800 block of Heatherwood Drive after a caller reported they had not heard from them and went to perform a wellness check. Childress and Newcomb were found struck several times.
On Thursday, authorities arrested Newcomb’s brother, Danny Hale Sr., 61, of Opelika, Alabama in connection with the deaths.
Hale is charged with two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He is being held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond. Sheriff’s Office Maj. Liz Scott said in a press release that authorities keyed in on Hale after an extensive investigation. Scott stressed that although an arrest was made, the investigation is ongoing.
