Biz Beat Roundup: Spotsylvania VA Clinic to hold ribbon cutting Friday

  • The Department of Veterans Affairs will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 1 p.m. Friday to celebrate the opening of its largest-ever leased Health Care Center (HCC). The Spotsylvania County center is set to serve more than 35,000 veterans annually, and create between 750 and 900 new jobs at full capacity.
  • Skechers tentatively plans to open its Fredericksburg store on March 6. The 8,700-square-foot store will be at 1370 Carl D. Silver Parkway in Central Park near Hobby Lobby.
  • There were 62 homes sold in the Fredericksburg region last week, according to data from the Fredericksburg Area Association of Realtors. Check back weekly for the new list.
  • The City of Fredericksburg recently published its fourth-quarter statistical report on business activity including tax-revenue collections, new businesses, commercial sales, vacancy rates and more.
  • Two businesses plan to open in April at 212 William St. in Downtown Fredericksburg, the former longtime home of Jewel Box. The first, Novel, describes itself as “a community-focused bookstore with a passion for books and a mission to foster a love of reading and building connections.” The second, Green Eyed Vines, is a plant-sales company.
  • The Walgreens store and pharmacy at 11129 Gordon Road in Spotsylvania will permanently close March 20. Walgreens has several additional area locations that will remain open.
  • Virginia Candy Company is planning a soft opening Sunday for its new retail location at 10667 Spotsylvania Ave.
  • ChunkyCup recently opened its store at 52 Foreston Woods Drive in Stafford County.
  • Amazon has filed for U.S. Army Corps of Engineers permits for its Mattameade data center project in Spotsylvania and Caroline counties. The campus will sit on 1,143 acres southeast of the intersection of Interstate 95 and Mudd Tavern Road.
