Fredericksburg Regional Transit (FXBGO!) was recently awarded a $20,000 grant from the Joe and Mary Wilson Community Benefit Fund of Mary Washington Hospital Foundation and an additional $20,000 from the Stafford Hospital Community Benefit Fund.

According to a press release announcing the awards, the grants will allow the agency to continue providing transit service in the Fredericksburg region, facilitating access to healthcare through public transportation and addressing health issues through the benefits and connections transit service provides.

In 2024, nearly 4,400 passengers boarded at the two hospital bus stops, while another 9,172 passengers boarded at other “medical stops” on FXBGO! routes. The ridership goal for 2025 is 2,500 passengers at hospital stops and 3,500 passengers at other medical stops.

The transit system has seen a notable increase in ridership due to fare-free service that began in February 2022. The fare-free service has led to an overall increase in trips, including those to medical facilities and for medical services. FXBGO! has exceeded both targets during 2024.

FXBGO! has grant-specific objectives for 2025, including strengthening its safety and security programs; reducing accidents and incidents by three percent year-over-year; increasing the number of riders who board at Mary Washington Hospital and Stafford Hospital; evaluating FXBGO! routes to determine how to best serve new and existing medical facilities; completing “Ride FXBGO!” individual training sessions and outreach sessions to educate the public.

Fredericksburg Regional Transit (FXBGO!) provides accessible, efficient, safe, and affordable public transit
service in the Fredericksburg region, which includes the City of Fredericksburg and the counties of
Spotsylvania, and Stafford. For more information, visit rideFXBGO.com.
