Eugene Loew, who has more than 20 years of experience in parks and recreation, has been hired as Stafford’s parks, recreation and tourism director, County Administrator Bill Ashton announced Tuesday.
Loew comes to Stafford from Prince William County, where he served as the assistant director of parks and recreation.
“Eugene has the expertise and vision to lead our Parks Department in expanding recreational and tourism opportunities for our growing community,” Ashton said in a statement about the hiring. “His ability to forge strategic partnerships, secure alternative funding sources and implement innovative solutions will ensure fiscal responsibility while prioritizing engagement, accessibility and quality of life for all Stafford residents.”
Loew said his focus will be on implementing operational improvements, optimizing the budget and enhancing public recreation services to ensure access for county residents.
“Stafford’s location on the interstate, halfway between Washington, D.C., and Richmond, makes it a prime destination, and I look forward to enhancing our tourism program to attract more visitors,” Loew said in the statement.
A George Mason University graduate with a bachelor of science in sustainability management, Loew also holds a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification. He brings a data-driven, efficiency-focused approach to his leadership, the statement said.
His career spans roles in golf course and park maintenance in Fairfax County and leadership positions in Dallas and Sacramento, Calif., in addition to Prince William.
