A man and a woman were found dead in a Spotsylvania County home Saturday morning as the result of a double homicide, according to the county sheriff’s office.

At approximately 10:30 a.m., deputies responded to the 10800 block of Heatherwood Drive after a caller reported they had not heard from a friend.

When the caller entered the home, they first saw the female’s body. They immediately left the residence and called 911. Deputies arrived on the scene and discovered both victims.

The victims were identified as Charles Childress, 61, and Kimberly Newcomb, 59. Investigators have not determined their relationship, other than that they lived together in the home.

Detectives with the Criminal Investigation Division, who gathered evidence and conducted interviews, ruled their deaths as a homicide. The circumstances remain under investigation as the cause of death was not released.
