Thirty-three dogs were rescued by Old Dominion Humane Society volunteers over the weekend from an alleged hoarding situation in southwestern Virginia.

A press release says the rescue occurred on Sunday. The dogs range in age from two weeks to three years old. Eleven dogs remain, and they’ll be rescued by the county’s animal control.

A spokesperson Old Dominion Humane Society said that due to there being a pending court case, the county in which the alleged hoarding situation took place would not be released.

After volunteers returned to the humane society’s facility in on Lafayette Blvd., they provided intake to the dogs–vaccinations, microchipping and examinations.

“Our community, once again, amazes me by stepping up so quickly to foster these dogs,” said Anna Swann, a 20-year-old volunteer who made the trip to pick up the dogs. “All 33 babies were placed in foster homes immediately.”

The humane society said dogs were fed and given warm blankets.
