Stafford County Public Schools has announced it is a recipient of a $2 million Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) Grant. Only 54 school divisions in the nation were selected.
The funding will support military-connected students by enhancing Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (S.T.E.M.) education and strengthening social-emotional learning opportunities at eight qualifying schools over the next five years:
- A.G. Wright Middle School
- Dixon Smith Middle School
- H.H. Poole Middle School
- Rodney E. Thompson Middle School
- Shirley Heim Middle School
- T. Benton Gayle Middle School
- Brooke Point High School
- Colonial Forge High School
DoDEA’s grant program aims to provide meaningful support for military-connected students through research-based solutions that drive student achievement, professional development for educators, and critical social-emotional resources.
“Military and military-connected families are a vital part of our community, and their unique needs deserve our focus and support,” said Daniel W. Smith, superintendent. “This grant enables us to strengthen our commitment to creating welcoming, resource-rich environments where all students can thrive academically and emotionally.”
The DoDEA grant will empower educators to engage military-connected students through innovative programming, tailored professional development, and expanded opportunities to explore S.T.E.M. fields. Enhanced social-emotional learning resources will also help ensure students feel supported and connected as they navigate the challenges often associated with military life. The award recognizes the significant presence of military families in Stafford County, many of whom are stationed at or work on federal properties, including Marine Corps Base Quantico, Fort Belvoir, and the Dahlgren Naval Surface Warfare Center.
