Arrest made in connection to downtown Fredericksburg shooting

Update, Sunday, 4:45 p.m.: A Woodford man has been charged in connection with the fatal shooting that claimed the life of 23-year-old Tyler Lee Jones on Saturday morning.

Izaiah Jabbar Daniels, 21, is currently being held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail, facing charges of second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. According to the Fredericksburg Police Department, Daniels was arrested Sunday following a traffic stop in Orange County.

Police said that the shooting, which took place around 1 a.m. in an area known for nightlife, “stemmed from an altercation between known parties.”

Shooting suspect Elijah Musgrove is still at large, and police are asking that anyone with information regarding his whereabouts, call 911 or 540-373-3122. Update: 3:30 p.m.: The Fredericksburg Police Department has released information about the suspect wanted in Saturday’s shooting. Elijah Musgrove is wanted by the City of Fredericksburg for the following charges: second-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Police say that Musgrove should be considered armed and dangerous.

Original story: A Fredericksburg man died after being shot in downtown Fredericksburg in the early hours of Saturday morning.

According to the Fredericksburg Police Department, officers responded to the 400 block of William Street around 1 a.m. after hearing gunfire. Upon arriving at the scene, officers found a male victim suffering from gunshot wounds on Charles Street. They provided aid until rescue personnel arrived.

Tyler Lee Jones, 23, of Fredericksburg, was taken to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Jones’ next of kin has been notified, police said.

Police said that their investigation is still in its early stages, and additional details will be released at a later time. The scene wasn’t cleared until nearly 9 a.m. Saturday, eight hours after the shooting. The shooting occurred in a heavily-trafficked part of the downtown corridor with several popular restaurants and bars.
