The Fredericksburg City School Board approved the appointment of Jacinta Calzada-Mayronne as the new principal of Lafayette Elementary School at Monday’s board meeting during closed session.
Calzada-Mayronne has served as an elementary, special education, and middle school teacher; a pre-K-8 special education coordinator; and, most recently, as assistant principal at Colonial Forge High School in Stafford County.
“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Calzada-Mayronne to Lafayette Elementary School,” said Fredericksburg City Schools Superintendent Marci Catlett said in a news release announcing the hire. “Her PK-12 experience, innovative approach to education, and commitment to building strong school relationships make her an outstanding choice to lead Lafayette Elementary.”
Calzada-Mayronne holds a doctorate in educational leadership and management from Drexel University, where she earned recognition for her research on inclusive education and strategies for improving educational outcomes for students with diverse needs. Her leadership roles reflect an expertise in managing multidisciplinary teams and developing systems that enhance student services, improve attendance, and bolster academic achievement.
Notably, she has spearheaded initiatives that reduced chronic absenteeism by 14 percentage points and increased access to career and technical education (CTE) certifications for students.
Calzada-Mayronne has partnered with organizations like the University of Mary Washington to present trauma-informed classroom strategies and collaborated with families to navigate special education processes, ensuring equitable access to resources and opportunities.
“Joining Lafayette Elementary School as a principal is a privilege and an incredible honor,” Calzada-Mayronne said in the release. “I am committed to being a champion for our Lions as we learn, grow, and succeed together.”
Calzada-Mayronne will officially assume her duties as principal in January 2025.
