Stafford’s Matt Doyle: Guardian of the Flame

by | Nov 20, 2024 | News, Non-Profits, Stafford, Ted Schubel

Special Olympics Virginia says Captain Matt Doyle with the Stafford Sheriff’s Office Special Star Force made history at the 2024 Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Conference in San Antonio, Texas.
Captain Doyle became the FIRST athlete and person with an intellectual disability to serve as a Guardian of the Flame at this prestigious annual event. Alongside fellow members of law enforcement, he carried the Flame of Hope into the Honors Luncheon, symbolizing unity, inclusion, and the unstoppable spirit of athletes everywhere.
Special Olympics Virginia says-“This moment wasn’t just a milestone for Matthew—it was a historic step forward for our movement.”
Matt Doyle competes with Area 11 Special Olympics.   In early February he’ll again participate in the Special Olympics Virginia Polar Plunge in Virginia Beach.
