About 260 pink ribbons were placed on the fence in front of the Mary Washington House on Charles Street for Breast Cancer Awareness month in October. Mary Ball Washington died in 1798 after a lengthy and difficult battle with breast cancer.
Each year during October, the community is invited to tie a pink ribbon to the fence to raise awareness of the disease and to honor or remember the courageous women in their lives who have battled breast cancer. washingtonheritagemuseums.org
