The state Forestry Department says fall foliage is progressing quickly, with the Allegheny, Blue Ridge and Massanutten Mountains at or past peak color. Fall colors will spread downslope and east rapidly, especially in urban areas and along roads.
By this weekend, parts of the Piedmont, Southwest Virginia and Shenandoah Valley will be near peak color.
