The 166-foot-tall Central Park sign off Interstate 95 in Fredericksburg is getting a refresh.
Crews this week started work replacing the sign, which sits atop two 126-foot-tall structural poles. Large cranes can be seen along I-95 to handle the job.
The familiar red-and-blue colors from the original sign and poles are being replaced with green and charcoal hues.
When completed, according to the application, the new sign will be about 162-feet-tall, a reduction of about 4 feet. The contractor installing the sign is Maryland-based Triangle Sign & Service.
The project is part of an overall refresh of the Central Park signs that has been underway. A digital board was added to the bottom of the “Big Red Sign” at the entrance to the shopping center, and new monument signs have been erected along Carl D. Silver Parkway.
