I-95 Southbound

Exit 148 (Quantico) to Exit 98 (Doswell)

Wednesday – Thursday, 9 p.m.-5 a.m. Mobile single lane closures for pothole repair, between mile marker 148 in Stafford County and mile marker 101 in Caroline County.

Exit 148 (Quantico) to Exit 98 (Doswell)

Monday – Saturday, 7 a.m.-7 p.m. All travel lanes will remain open, but mowing crews will be working along the interstate between mile markers 148-101.

Exit 148 (Quantico) to Exit 143 (Aquia/Garrisonville)

Sunday – Thursday, 9 p.m.-4:30 a.m. Varying single and double lane closures for bridge maintenance at mile marker 145, at the Aquia Creek Bridge. Single lane closure begins at 9 p.m. followed by a double lane closure starting at 10 p.m.

Exit 133 (Falmouth/Warrenton) Off-Ramp to Route 17 OVERNIGHT RAMP CLOSURE

Sunday – Thursday, 9 p.m.-4:30 a.m. Single lane closure starting at 9 p.m. on the off-ramp from the I-95 northbound local lanes to Route 17 in Stafford. Then, the ramp will close to traffic nightly on Sunday-Thursday evenings from 10 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. the following morning, through 4:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 25. Road resurfacing.

Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) to Exit 140 (Courthouse Road)

Sunday – Thursday, 9 p.m.-4:30 a.m. Varying single and double lane closures for bridge maintenance at mile marker 137, at the Potomac Creek bridge. Single lane closure begins at 9 p.m. followed by a double lane closure starting at 10 p.m.

Lancaster County and Middlesex County

Route 3 over Rappahannock River (Norris Bridge)

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Norris Bridge annual safety inspection. Automated flagging devices will direct one-way, alternating alternate one-way traffic through the work zone. Flagging crews operate the devices, which can be rapidly adjusted to respond to congestion or incidents on the bridge.

Middlesex County

Route 33 Eastbound

Monday – Friday, 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Alternating lane closures for milling and paving on eastbound Route 33 on various segments throughout the county.

Richmond County and Town of Tappahannock

Route 360 over Rappahannock River (Downing Bridge)

Sunday – Thursday, 8 p.m.-5 a.m. One-way, alternating traffic on Downing Bridge. Traffic is being reduced to a single lane on the bridge due to a paving work zone underway immediately north of the bridge in Richmond County.

Spotsylvania County

Route 1

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. All travel lanes will remain open, but the alignment of the Route 1 travel lanes will be shifted slightly between Arcadia Road and Mudd Tavern Road for road improvements connected with the Kalahari Resorts & Conventions development. Permit work. Construction will also be underway along the road shoulder.

Route 1 Northbound and Southbound

Sunday – Thursday, 7 p.m.-7 a.m. Single lane closures between the I-95 southbound off-ramp and Southpoint Parkway.

Route 2/17 (Tidewater Trail)

Sunday – Friday, 8 p.m.-5 a.m. Lane closures with one-way, alternating traffic for milling and paving on several sections of Route 2/17 between the Caroline County line and Powell Street.

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Flagging operation for work at the Glendas Way intersection.

Route 3 Eastbound and Westbound

Monday – Friday, 12 p.m.-5:30 a.m. Single lane closures between Glade Drive/Montpelier Drive and the Spotsylvania County Museum. Construction to reopen crossovers and apply final road surface after Lick Run culvert installation.

Route 3 Eastbound and Westbound

Monday – Friday, 6 a.m.-2 p.m. Single lane closures between Spotswood Furnace Road and Corter Avenue for permit work.

Route 208 (Courthouse Road)

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Mobile lane closures and turn lane closures at the intersection with Robert E. Lee Drive for sign installation.

Days Bridge Road

Monday – Friday, 7 a.m.-5 p.m. Single lane closure with one-way, alternating traffic for bridge repairs over Lake Anna.

Harrison Road

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Single lane closure between Kingswood Boulevard and Salem Church Road/Leavells Road with one-way, alternating traffic. Installation of water main under permit.

Morris Road

Monday – Tuesday, 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Single lane closure between Route 1 and Taveneer Lane with one-way, alternating traffic. Installation of water line.

Southpoint Parkway

Sunday – Friday, 7:30 p.m.-5:30 a.m., and Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m., and Friday, 9 p.m.-midnight. Single lane closures between Pacific Drive and Route 1.

Summers Landing Subdivision

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Mobile lane closures for patching work ahead of upcoming road resurfacing on various routes in the Summers Landing subdivision.

Stafford County

Route 1 Northbound and Southbound

Sunday – Friday, 8 p.m.-5 a.m. Mobile lane closures between the Potomac Creek bridge and South Campus Boulevard. Pavement marking.

Route 1 Northbound and Southbound

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Single lane closure between South Campus Boulevard and the Potomac Creek bridge. Fiber installation. Permit work.

Route 1 Southbound

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Single lane closure between Layhill Road and Potomac Creek Drive. Utility installation. Permit work.

Route 17 Northbound and Southbound

Sunday – Thursday, 9 p.m.-5 a.m. Alternating lane closures on Route 17 northbound and southbound near the Fauquier County line for bridge repairs.

Sunday – Friday, 7 p.m.-5 a.m. Alternating northbound and southbound double lane closures between Short Street and Sanford Drive/South Gateway Drive for milling, paving and lane marking.

Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Alternating northbound and southbound lane closures between Short Street and Sanford Drive/South Gateway Drive. Crews will be gathering pavement samples.

Route 17 Southbound

Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Single southbound lane closure between Hartwood Church Road and Clark Patton Road. Tree clearing for utility work. Permit work.

Route 17 Southbound

Sunday – Friday, 8 p.m.-5 a.m. Single southbound lane closure between Marsh Lane and Poplar Drive. Pavement marking.

Route 610 (Garrisonville Road)

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Single lane closure on Route 610 between Algrace Boulevard and Ripley Road. Construction for turn lane extension. Permit work.

Berea Church Road CLOSURE

Berea Church Road is closed from Berea Knolls Drive to Theresa Garden Place, and northbound access is closed from Route 17 to Berea Knolls Drive. Construction for a Stafford County project to improve Berea Church Road. View the project page.

Blake Farm Subdivision

Tuesday – Friday, 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Paving on various routes. Flaggers will direct traffic through the mobile work zone.

Leeland Road

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Turn lane and shoulder closures at intersection with Perth Drive and Walnut Farms Parkway.

The Willows Subdivision

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Milling and paving on various routes. Flaggers will direct traffic through the mobile work zone.

Winslow Subdivision

Wednesday – Friday, 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Paving on various routes. Flaggers will direct traffic through the mobile work zone.

Route 658 (Monroe Bay Circle)

Starting Monday, Oct. 21, Monroe Bay Circle will close at the bridge over Monroe Creek. Motorists will follow a posted detour. Construction crews will remove the temporary bridge and install a new bridge. The road will reopen to through traffic when the new bridge opens in Sept. 2025.

Pavement Marking

Monday – Wednesday, 7 a.m.- 7 p.m. Alternating mobile lane closures with flagging operations on various secondary routes.

Additional Projects in Fredericksburg District

Caroline County

Route 638 (South River Road) Bridge Replacement

Construction is underway to replace the Route 638 (South River Road) bridge over South River. A portion of South River Road is closed with a detour in place. The project will be complete by Sept. 2025.

Gloucester County and Mathews County

Route 3/14 Westbound Bridge Rehabilitation

A major bridge rehabilitation project is underway on the Route 3/Route 14 westbound bridge over Burke Mill Stream, which is located at the Mathews and Gloucester line. Crews are improving the 76-year-old structure by replacing the bridge deck, beams, bridge railings, and guardrails. Starting Monday, Oct. 28, the westbound Route 3/14 travel lanes will close at Windsor Road and eastbound and westbound Route 3/14 traffic will both cross the eastbound bridge over Burke Mill Stream, with one lane open in each direction. Left turns from Windsor Road to Route 14 eastbound are prohibited. Project completion in Nov. 2025.

King and Queen County

Route 621 (Bruington Road) over Dickeys Swamp

Bruington Road is closed to through traffic at the bridge over Dickeys Swamp, with a posted detour along Route 14 and Route 360. This is one of multiple bridges undergoing repair as part of the $3.1 million bridge maintenance project in the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula to address structure scour. Scour is the erosion of soil around a bridge’s foundation. Weather permitting, the road will reopen by mid-Dec. 2024.

Route 685 (Fish Hatchery Road)

Fish Hatchery Road is reduced to a single travel lane in a work zone to install a concrete box culvert. Project under construction by VDOT state forces. Construction began in March 2024 and is anticipated to be complete in November 2024.

King and Queen County and King William County

Route 628 (Dorrell Road/Spring Cottage Road) Bridge Closure

Dorrell Road/Spring Cottage Road is closed at the bridge over the Mattaponi River, located at the King and Queen and King William county line. A detour route is posted. Construction is underway on a major bridge rehabilitation project. The road will remain closed until early June 2025. The bridge closed for motorist safety in March 2023 after a routine inspection found significant deterioration in key bridge elements.

Spotsylvania County

I-95 Southbound Exit 126 Off-Ramp and Route 1 Southbound

A second right turn lane is under construction from the I-95 southbound off-ramp at exit 126 onto Route 1 southbound. Route 1 southbound is being widened from the off-ramp to Southpoint Parkway with an additional turn lane. A second right turn lane is being added from Route 1 southbound to Southpoint Parkway. Traffic islands will be installed along Southpoint Parkway as a safety improvement to allow left turns into driveways but restrict through and left-turning traffic exiting from side streets. Project completion in Aug. 2025.

Route 3 Westbound Culvert Installation at Lick Run

Crews installed a new culvert on Route 3 westbound over Lick Run during the weekend of Sept. 13-16, 2024. Periodic single lane closures will continue at Lick Run for paving and other final construction activities. Project completion in early Nov. 2024.

Route 606 (Mudd Tavern Road) Widening

Mudd Tavern Road is being widened to four lanes between I-95 and Route 1. A new secondary access route, Route 2092, is under construction parallel to Mudd Tavern Road, and it will connect with South Roxbury Mill Road and Dan Bell Lane. Project completion in May 2025.

Route 620 (Harrison Road) Reconstruction and Widening

Harrison Road is being widened to four lanes between Gordon Road and Old Plank Road. The project will build a center turn lane along Harrison Road and additional through travel lanes at the Old Plank Road and Gordon Road intersections, and extend the current turn lanes at these intersections. Sidewalks will be built along Harrison Road, and pedestrian crossing signal equipment and crosswalks will be added at the Old Plank Road and Gordon Road intersections. Project completion late summer 2026.

Stafford County

Banks Ford Parkway and Celebrate Virginia Parkway Modular Roundabout

Construction to install a modular roundabout is underway at the intersection of Banks Ford Parkway and Celebrate Virgina Parkway. Crews are installing modular roundabout pieces, which are made from recycled material. Signs and pavement markings will guide motorists through the roundabout. Project completion in late Oct. 2024.

Westmoreland County

Route 658 (Monroe Bay Circle)

Monroe Bay Circle is reduced to a single travel lane with a temporary bridge spanning Monroe Creek. A temporary traffic signal is directing one-way, alternating traffic. The road is scheduled to close at the bridge on Monday, Oct. 21, as construction begins to build a new bridge over Monroe Creek. Motorists will follow a posted detour. Monroe Bay Circle will be closed until the new bridge opens in Sept. 2025.
