Gabe Dombek threw a pair of touchdown passes to help the Brooke Point High School football team rally for a 30-27 Commonwealth District victory over Mountain View Friday night.
Dombek hooked up with Jacob Dalton and Javier Hubbard on scoring strikes, and finished the game with over 200 yards through the air. He also ran for a score.
Jaelyn Cox added over 100 yards rushing for the Black-Hawks (5-3, 2-2) who trailed 20-16 entering the fourth quarter.
Jaylen Castro completed 9 of 19 passes for 228 yards and three touchdowns for the visiting Wildcats (3-4, 1-3), who lost their third contest in a row.
Brooke Point will visit Colonial Forge next Friday, while Mountain View closes out its nondistrict schedule with a home game against Patriot.
COURTLAND 35, JAMES MONROE 13
Marcus LaRue’s 235 rushing yards sparked the host Cougars as they picked up head coach J.C. Hall’s 150th career win in a Battlefield District victory over the Yellow Jackets.
LaRue added a rushing touchdown, and Khamari Lawton chipped in 55 yards and two scores.
Quarterback Chieftain Watson went 5-of-13 for 124 yards and a touchdown for Courtland (5-2, 3-1)
Jude Hardy completed 17 of 28 passes for 198 yards with a touchdown and an interception for James Monroe (2-5, 0-4).
The Cougars will hit the road to play rival Chancellor next Friday, and the Jackets will travel to Spotsylvania Thursday.
CHANCELLOR 22, CULPEPER 8
The visiting Chargers won for the second time in three weeks, topping the Blue Devils in a Battlefield District tilt.
The Blue Devils were paced by 150 yards and a touchdown on the ground from Caleb Green.
Chancellor (2-5, 2-2) welcomes Courtland on Friday. Culpeper (2-5, 0-5) will host Rocktown in nondistrict action the same night.
EASTERN VIEW 27, SPOTSYLVANIA 7
The host Cyclones unleashed a rushing onslaught in their Battlefield District victory over the Knights.
All four of Eastern View’s touchdowns came on the ground. Quarterback AP Hull ran for a pair of scores, while KJ Brown and Jayquan White reached the end zone once each.
The Cyclones (5-2, 4-0) will now turn their attention to a first-place district showdown at King George next Friday. Spotsylvania (2-5, 1-3) will host James Monroe Thursday.
KING GEORGE 47, CAROLINE 2
The visiting Foxes left little doubt about the outcome in a Battlefield District victory over the Cavaliers.
Dylan Koch connected on 7 of 13 passes for 217 yards with three TDs and an INT for King George (5-2, 4-0). Simeon Battle and Charles Johnson both had big nights on the ground, with Battle rushing for 136 yards and a score and Johnson racking up 125 yards and two touchdowns.
Caroline (5-2, 3-2) managed just 146 yards of total offense and turned the ball over three times. Standout running back Vladimir Joacin Jr. was limited to 25 yards on the ground. Senior linebacker Javoun Morris recorded an interception for the Cavaliers and wide receiver Malik Johnson led the offense with 105 total yards (68 receiving, 37 rushing).
The Foxes will welcome Eastern View on Friday, while the Cavaliers will host Colonial Heights in nondistrict play the same night.
RIVERBEND 34, COLONIAL FORGE 17
The Bears pulled away after halftime to earn a Commonwealth District win over the Eagles.
Riverbend quarterback Camden Simmons accounted for 202 yards of total offense and four total touchdowns. He ran for a game-high 158 yards and a pair of scores on just five carries, and went 4 of 5 for 44 yards and a touchdown through the air.
Simmons’ 48-yard jaunt opened up the scoring in the first quarter. He connected with JoJo Thomas for an 18-yard score that gave the Bears (4-3, 2-1) a 13-7 lead in the second period, then returned a kickoff 60 yards for a touchdown to give them a 21-14 halftime advantage.
Simmons tacked on a 60-yard scoring scamper to extend Riverbend’s edge to 27-17 in the third quarter.
Thomas complemented Simmons’ effort with 141 yards rushing on 18 carries.
Brock Brimhall completed 24 of 43 passes for a career-high 334 yards for Forge (6-2, 2-2). He threw two touchdown passes, but was also intercepted twice.
The Bears will host district-leading Stafford next Friday, and the Eagles will welcome Brooke Point.
