Prince William Fire and Rescue says an electrical malfunction in a hybrid vehicle sparked a fire early Wednesday morning that destroyed eight cars and damaged three others at the Summerland Heights apartment complex in Woodbridge.

Firefighters arrived to find a row of parked cars on fire. A press release says 11 cars were involved, with eight of them destroyed.

The fire marshal’s office determined the blaze was ignited by an electrical malfunction in a hybrid vehicle with the ensuing fire engulfing nearby autos. The release said leaking gasoline contributed to the extensive spread. Photo courtesy Prince William Fire and Rescue
