Courtland High School parents received a message Monday informing them of a threat of a school shooting written on the wall in a boys’ bathroom at the Spotsylvania County high school.

The letter stated that a student reported to school administration seeing the threat on Sept. 13. The school said the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office has interviewed several students as part of its ongoing investigation.

“Our student and staff safety is our priority. In an abundance of caution and to reassure our students and staff, the Sheriff’s Office is going to have an additional presence on campus tomorrow, September 17,” the letter stated.

This is the latest in a series of recent online school threats. Fredericksburg City Schools, Stafford County Public Schools, Caroline Public Schools and King George Public Schools have all issued statements in recent weeks addressing unfounded threats and rumors about pending violence at schools. In several instances, juveniles involved in the threats have been arrested.

In an unrelated incident, a 17-year-old Courtland High School student was arrested recently for a probation violation after a photo on social media surfaced showing him with a weapon, said Maj. Troy Skebo of the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office.
