Department of Forestry looking for acorns, walnuts and chestnuts

by | Sep 10, 2024 | Government, Outdoors, Ted Schubel

The state Department of Forestry is asking for help from Virginians in its effort to replant oak, walnut and chestnut trees in the Commonwealth.

Virginians who are interested in helping the department are asked to collect uncracked acorns, walnuts and chestnuts from healthy trees and drop them off at any department office by Oct. 15.

The department asks that all donations be separated by species of tree and come in either a paper bag or cardboard box. The department also asks that all donations be labeled with the species, as well as the date and location they were found. If the species is not known, including a leaf with the donation.
