An argument between brothers on Woodhue Court in Spotsylvania County led to one shooting the other in the abdomen Monday evening, according to the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to the 6200 block of Woodhue Court at approximately 7:45 p.m. after a shooting was reported. Authorities discovered a male, 30, suffering from a single gunshot wound to his abdomen.

Deputies began rendering life-saving measures and the victim was transported to a local hospital. An investigation determined that the victim and his brother, Caleb Ralph Merswin, 34, had a confrontation that led to the shooting. Several witnesses including multiple family members were present during the incident.

The victim, who was not named by the sheriff’s office, remains in the hospital. His condition is not known.

Merswin is facing charges of malicious wounding and use of a firearm in commission of a felony. He was taken into custody Tuesday and transported to Rappahannock Regional Jail.
