I-95 Northbound and Southbound

Exit 130 (Route 3)

Tuesday – Wednesday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. Single lane closure followed by double lane closure at 10 p.m. for paving work near the interchange. Crews will be paving emergency crossover areas.

Exit 140 (Courthouse Road) to Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway)

Tuesday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. Varying single and double lane closures for bridge maintenance at mile marker 137, at the Potomac Creek bridge. Single lane closure begins at 9 p.m. followed by a double lane closure starting at 10 p.m.

Exit 148 (Quantico) to Exit 143 (Aquia/Garrisonville)

Tuesday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. Varying single and double lane closures for bridge maintenance at mile marker 145, at the Aquia Creek Bridge. Single lane closure begins at 9 p.m. followed by a double lane closure starting at 10 p.m.

I-95 Northbound

Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) to Exit 140 (Courthouse Road)

Wednesday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. Single and double lane closures for installation of pavement markings at mile markers 137-140. Single lane closure begins at 9 p.m. followed by a double lane closure starting at 10 p.m.

I-95 Southbound

Exit 110 (Ladysmith) to Exit 104 (Carmel Church)

Monday – Thursday, 6 p.m. – 7 a.m. Single lane closure and shoulder closure for shoulder restoration work at mile markers 108-107.

Town of Urbanna: Road Resurfacing

Wednesday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. Expect mobile lane closures on the following routes to allow crews to apply slurry seal as part of the cape seal road resurfacing process. Travelers will be directed through the work zone by a flagging crew.

Wednesday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Route 1 southbound right turn lane closure between Commonwealth Drive and Palmers Creek Way. Utility work.

Route 1 Northbound and Southpoint Parkway

24-hour lane closures will be in place at the Route 1 and Southpoint Parkway intersection. This is to advance road and bridge widening under construction on Southpoint Parkway. Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes. Read the release here.

Route 3 Eastbound and Westbound

Tuesday – Friday, noon – 5:30 a.m. Single lane closures between Montpelier Drive and the Spotsylvania County Museum. Lick Run culvert installation project.

Mudd Tavern Road

Wednesday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. One-way, alternating traffic directed by a flagging crew between Route 1 and the intersection with a connector road leading to Route 2092.

Block House Road

Tuesday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. Flaggers will direct alternating one-way traffic between Route 208 and Partlow Road for installation of pavement markers.

Brock Road

Tuesday – Thursday, 8:30 a.m. – 7 p.m. Alternating lane closures directed by a flagging crew for pavement marking work between Talley Road and Gordon Road.

Harrison Road

Wednesday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Single lane closure between Kingswood Boulevard and Leavells Road with one-way, alternating traffic. Installation of water main under permit.

Hospital Boulevard

Tuesday – Thursday, 8 p.m. – 5 a.m. Alternating lane closures with flagging for milling and paving between the roundabout and Route 17 (Mills Drive).

Massaponax Church Road

Wednesday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Single lane closure with one-way, alternating traffic between Route 17 and Cedar Forest Drive for permit work.

Smith Station Road

Sunday – Friday, 8 p.m. – 6 a.m. Single lane closure on Smith Station Road between Leavells Road and Courthouse Road, with traffic directed by a flagging crew. Installation of pavement markers.

Spotsylvania Parkway

Tuesday – Thursday, 8 p.m. – 5 a.m. Alternating lane closures with flagging for milling and paving between Hospital Boulevard and Route 1.

Wednesday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Alternating northbound and southbound single lane closures between Hartwood Church Road and Clark Patton Road. Permit work. Crews will be gathering soil samples in connection with a new residential development.

Route 17 Southbound

Tuesday – Friday, 8 p.m. – 6 a.m. Alternating lane closures for milling and paving between the Stafford/Fauquier County line and Marsh Road.

Banks Ford Road and Celebrate Virginia Parkway

A four-way stop is installed at the Banks Ford Parkway and Celebrate Virginia Parkway intersection, and as early as Thursday, Sept. 5, traffic may begin traveling in a roundabout pattern. Watch for construction activity underway to install a modular roundabout.

Berea Church Road CLOSURE

Berea Church Road is closed from Berea Knolls Drive to Theresa Garden Place, and northbound access is closed from Route 17 to Berea Knolls Drive. Construction for a Stafford County project to improve Berea Church Road. View the project page.

Brent Point Road

Tuesday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. One-way, alternating traffic directed by a flagging crew between Arkendale Road and the end of state maintenance. Road resurfacing using cape seal treatment.

Courthouse Road

Tuesday – Thursday, 8 p.m. – 6 a.m. Milling and paving east of Route 1, from Route 1 to Aquia Creek Road. Alternating lane closures with flagging to alternate, one-way traffic through the work zone.

Decatur Road

Tuesday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. One-way, alternating traffic directed by a flagging crew between Norman Road and Indian View Court. Road resurfacing using cape seal treatment.

Richards Ferry Road

Tuesday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. One-way, alternating traffic directed by a flagging crew between Jack Ellington Road and the end of state maintenance. Shoulder widening project to enhance safety.

Richland Road

Tuesday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. One-way, alternating traffic directed by a flagging crew between Route 17 and Hartwood Road. Road resurfacing using cape seal treatment.

Route 638 (South River Road) Bridge Replacement

Construction is underway to replace the Route 638 (South River Road) bridge over South River. A portion of South River Road is closed with a detour in place. The project will be complete by Sept. 2025. Visit the project page to learn more.

Gloucester County and Mathews County

Route 3/14 Westbound Bridge Rehabilitation

A major bridge rehabilitation project is underway on the Route 3/Route 14 westbound bridge over Burke Mill Stream, which is located at the Mathews and Gloucester line. Crews are improving the 76-year-old structure by replacing the bridge deck, beams, bridge railings, and guardrails. In early-to-mid October 2024, the westbound Route 3/14 travel lanes will close at Windsor Road and eastbound and westbound Route 3/14 traffic will both cross the eastbound bridge over Burke Mill Stream, with one lane open in each direction. Left turns from Windsor Road to Route 14 eastbound will be prohibited. View an online map of traffic impacts related to the work zone. Project completion in November 2025.

King and Queen County and King William County

Route 628 (Dorrell Road/Spring Cottage Road) Bridge Closure

Dorrell Road/Spring Cottage Road is closed at the bridge over the Mattaponi River, located at the King and Queen and King William county line. A detour route is posted. Construction is underway on a major bridge rehabilitation project. The road will remain closed until early June 2025. The bridge closed for motorist safety in March 2023 after a routine inspection found significant deterioration in key bridge elements.

Spotsylvania County

I-95 Southbound Exit 126 Off-Ramp and Route 1 Southbound

A second right turn lane is under construction from the I-95 southbound off-ramp at exit 126 onto Route 1 southbound. Route 1 southbound is being widened from the off-ramp to Southpoint Parkway with an additional turn lane. A second right turn lane is being added from Route 1 southbound to Southpoint Parkway. Traffic islands will be installed along Southpoint Parkway as a safety improvement to allow left turns into driveways but restrict through and left-turning traffic exiting from side streets. Route 3 Westbound Culvert Installation at Lick Run

The existing Route 3 westbound bridge over Lick Run is being replaced with a 36-foot-long, 12-foot-wide, and 8-foot-high concrete box culvert. Construction underway through early Sept. 2024 requires temporary single lane closures and the closure of two median crossovers on Route 3 immediately east and west of Lick Run. During the project’s second phase, when the culvert will be installed in an extended weekend operation, Route 3 westbound traffic will be shifted temporarily to travel in the Route 3 eastbound lanes from 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13-noon Monday, Sept. 16, 2024. One lane of Route 3 will remain open in each direction during this culvert installation.

Route 17 (Mills Drive) Overpass Replacement and Widening

Route 17 was widened from two to four lanes from just east of the Hospital Boulevard/Germanna Point Drive intersection to west of a new four-lane Interstate 95 overpass built by this project. Improvements included a shared-use path, sidewalk, crosswalks, and pedestrian crossing signal equipment. New travel lanes are open, but additional construction activity continues. Project completion was originally scheduled for Feb. 2024.

Route 208 (Courthouse Road) and Hood Drive

Hood Drive has reopened to two-way traffic between Route 1 and Route 208 (Courthouse Road). New right and left turn lanes are under construction at an entrance to a future Veterans Health Administration clinic. Additional turn lanes were built on northbound Hood Drive approaching Courthouse Road. Additional sidewalk, crosswalks, and pedestrian crossing equipment have also been installed. Project completion in Aug. 2024.

Route 606 (Mudd Tavern Road) Widening

Mudd Tavern Road is being widened to four lanes between I-95 and Route 1. A new secondary access route, Route 2092, will be built parallel to Mudd Tavern Road, and will connect with South Roxbury Mill Road and Dan Bell Lane. Project completion in May 2025.

Stafford County

Banks Ford Parkway and Celebrate Virginia Parkway Modular Roundabout

Construction to install a modular roundabout is underway at the intersection of Banks Ford Parkway and Celebrate Virgina Parkway. Starting as early as Thursday, Sept. 5, the existing four-way stop at the intersection will be removed, and motorists will begin driving through a roundabout traffic pattern. Crews are installing modular roundabout pieces, which are made from recycled material. Signs and pavement markings will guide motorists through the roundabout. Project completion has been revised to late October 2024.

Westmoreland County

Route 658 (Monroe Bay Circle)

Monroe Bay Circle is reduced to a single travel lane with a temporary bridge spanning Monroe Creek. A temporary traffic signal is directing one-way, alternating traffic. The bridge is a temporary measure to maintain traffic flow while a bridge replacement project is advanced.
