The Virginia State Police is seeking the public’s assistance in locating additional victims of a potential auto-theft ring.
On Dec. 8, 2023, troopers were dispatched to a call for a stolen vehicle out of Caroline County. A tow truck showed up to a residence to conduct what the tow company believed to be a lawful repossession. An investigation by the state police determined that the owner of the vehicle had been making regular payments, but the seller of the vehicle did not forward appropriate documents, instead repossessing the vehicle.
Brandon E Morton, 32 of Stafford, has been indicted on felony racketeering charges involving sales and fraudulent repossessions of vehicles. He is currently in Rappahannock Regional Jail. It is believed he used multiple aliases and may have operated several dealerships under various names and that there may be more victims from Caroline, Fredericksburg and Northern Virginia.
Possible victims or anyone with information is asked to contact the Virginia State Police – Division One at #77, 804/750-8758, or email [email protected].
