Fredericksburg Free Press to hold town hall for CD-7 candidates

The Fredericksburg Free Press will hold a town hall-style forum for the candidates for Virginia’s 7th Congressional District at 7 p.m. on Sept. 16, at the Fredericksburg Convention Center.

Phil Jenkins, a former Free Lance-Star editor and current member of the Free Press journalism advisory committee, will moderate the discussion with Democrat Eugene Vindman and Republican Derrick Anderson.

Audience members will submit questions, which Jenkins will then use to facilitate conversations and allow each candidate to articulate his stances on the issues.

“Unlike a debate, each candidate will have the opportunity to fully explain their positions and platforms on matters they believe are most important to the constituency,” Free Press co-chair Seth Silber said of the event’s format. “The primary goal of this Town Hall is to ensure the public understands how each candidate, if elected, plans to serve the community.”

Fredericksburg Free Press is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and nonpartisan newsroom dedicated to covering the City of Fredericksburg, as well as Stafford and Spotsylvania counties. Partnering with the Free Press in hosting the town hall are the Fredericksburg, Stafford and Spotsylvania County branches of NAACP and Fredericksburg Area Alumnae Chapter Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Doors open at 6 p.m., and the following items/behaviors are prohibited:

  • Vaping devices
  • Food/Beverages
  • Backpacks
  • Weapons
  • Banners or signs (other than at the candidates’ tables)
  • Disruptive behavior

Early voting for the November election begins Sept. 20 and runs until Nov. 2. Election day is Nov. 5.
