Only 9.7% of Fredericksburg’s estimated 21,086 workers live within city limits.
That’s just one data point that the Fredericksburg City Council will hear Tuesday night when it holds a public hearing prior to considering changes to Chapter 2 of the city’s comprehensive plan, which includes updated demographic and economic data.
Earlier this summer, the city began holding a series of public pop-up-style events related to updating the Comprehensive Plan as it seeks input from residents.
The other public hearing on Tuesday’s agenda concerns the issuance of a special-use permit to construct a drive-through at a financial institution in Cowan Station, off Olde William Street.
Also on Tuesday — which marks council’s first such meeting in more than a month — councilors will decide whether to approve an ordinance granting Dominion Energy an easement related to a construction project at the Motts Run Water Treatment Plant.
According to a memo issued by city staff and attached to the agenda for Tuesday’s meeting, the 40-year right-of-way easement is related to ongoing improvements currently being undertaken by Spotsylvania County, which owns the plant jointly with the city.
City council will also decide whether to extend until Oct. 18 the planning commission’s deadline to issue its recommendation on Jeremiah Project, a supportive housing community proposed off Roffman Road.
The planning commission will continue its public hearing on the issue when it meets Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
Prior to the 7:30 p.m. regular meeting, city council will hold a work session. According to the work session agenda, councilors and city staff will discuss a feasibility study related to the construction of a data center at two potential locations in the city.
