A small fire broke out on the third floor of a building in the 800 block of Caroline St. just after 11 a.m. Friday morning, prompting a response from the Fredericksburg Fire Department as well as units from neighboring Stafford and Spotsylvania counties.

Firefighters drew from a fire hydrant on Caroline Street to douse the fire and extended a ladder to the third-floor window while residents looked on from both sides of the street.

Fredericksburg Fire Chief Mike Jones said that there were no injuries and that units were in the process of clearing out “moderate smoke” from the first, second and third floors.

An advisory from the city of Fredericksburg asked residents to avoid the area of Caroline St. between Hanover and George until an all-clear is issued.
