Stafford Fire and Rescue says just before 2:40 P.M. on Thursday afternoon, units responded for a reported structure fire in the 800 block of Walnut Drive. Spokeswoman Katie Brady says first arriving units marked on scene approximately 5 minutes later and found flames showing from multiple sides of a single family residence.

Brady says the fire was brought under control in approximately 30 minutes. She says crews were challenged by steep terrain and long distances to hydrants.

Brady says one adult and four children were not at home at the time of the fire. They are being assisted by the American Red Cross. Four dogs survived the fire unharmed, two cats are unaccounted for. One firefighter was evaluated on scene, but declined further treatment.

The fire is under investigation by the Stafford County Fire Marshal’s Office. Crews were assisted on scene by the Fredericksburg Fire Department and Fauquier County Fire Rescue System. Photos courtesy Stafford Fire and Rescue.
