Twenty-two elementary school students were on board a bus involved in a three-vehicle crash in King George County Wednesday afternoon.

Shortly after dismissal for Sealston Elementary, county school bus No. 22 was involved in an accident in the area of State Route 3 and Lambs Creek Church Road, said Amanda Higgins, King George County Public Schools coordinator of communication.

None of the students suffered significant injuries and were reloaded onto a different bus for transport home.

“Our division superintendent, Sealston Elementary principal, and Sealston Elementary nurse were all on the scene with the students and bus driver and to support emergency personnel,” Higgins said.

Virginia State Police responded to the crash at 4:37 p.m. Jessica Shehan, public information officer with the state police, said the school bus was stopped with its stop sign extended and red lights flashing. Also, a Ford pickup truck was stopped in the left lane near the school bus, when the driver of a Honda minivan struck the stopped vehicles. Shehan said the driver of the minivan briefly looked away while moving and did not notice the stopped vehicles.

The driver of the minivan was not injured and is facing charges of reckless driving and having defective tires.

The crash remains under investigation.
