The community is encouraged to attend a neighborhood meeting on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in the Lafayette Elementary School cafeteria to learn more about the Learning Lane stormwater pipe emergency repairs and to speak with city officials.
Learning Lane is closing for emergency stormwater pipe repairs effective Aug. 16. The detour is southbound Patriot Highway (U.S. 1) to Harrison Road, left on Lafayette Boulevard, to left on Hotchkiss Street, right on Rose Avenue, left to Pender Street to Learning Lane.
Lafayette Elementary and Walker-Grant Middle School parents, staff and school buses are encouraged to travel Lafayette Boulevard to Pender Street when arriving. Drivers should exit the schools by traveling on Pender Street to Rose Avenue to Hotchkiss Street at the traffic light.
The public is asked to avoid Lafayette Boulevard and travel on US Route 1 until October due to the anticipated detour-related traffic congestion. Drivers will experience heavier traffic on Lafayette Boulevard during peak school arrival and dismissal times of 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. All drivers are encouraged to be alert in the areas of Learning Lane and Lafayette Boulevard, watch for detour signage and be extra cautious in the school zones for everyone’s safety.
