4th of July fireworks safety tips

by | Jun 29, 2024 | Police and Fire, Ted Schubel

Stafford County Fire and Rescue has been offering a number of fireworks safety tips on their Facebook page in recent days.   This time of year it’s always good to review some of the basics:

Did you know that sparklers can burn as hot as 1200° Fahrenheit? Play it safe and use caution this 4th of July with sparklers and fireworks. We love our community, but we would hate to spend the 4th with you because of a sparkler or firework injury.

Improperly discarded fireworks have caused several fires across Stafford County over the past several years. If you plan to safely use legal fireworks this 4th of July, be sure they are used in an open space, away from combustible materials and soak discarded fireworks in water, away from your home, before disposing of them.

Fireworks and alcohol don’t mix. If you are planning on using legal fireworks for your celebration this 4th of July, do not operate fireworks while under the influence of alcohol or other substances that could impair your judgement.
