Amtrak train hits vehicle in Caroline County

Virginia State Police is investigating a crash involving an Amtrak Train and a vehicle that took place at approximately 10:08 p.m. Wednesday on the railroad tracks near Penola Road and Polecat Lane in Caroline County.

According to VSP spokesperson Matthew Demlein, the crash occurred when a vehicle became stuck on the tracks and the train sideswiped the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle was able to get out before the crash and was not injured. There were no injuries reported aboard the Amtrak train.

The crash remains under investigation.

The crossing is the same location where a tractor-trailer got stuck crossing the railroad tracks in 2021 and was struck by a CSX freight train.
