Stafford Fire and Rescue involved in house fire and I-95 brush fire Sunday

by | Jun 23, 2024 | Police and Fire, Stafford, Ted Schubel

Busy Sunday for Stafford Fire and Rescue.  Spokeswoman Katie Brady two calls in particular kept crews busy.

Brady says just after 10:15AM, crews were dispatched for a reported structure fire in the 300 block of Richards Ferry Road. First arriving units arrived 5 minutes later and reported smoke coming from a single family home. Crews brought the fire under control in about 10 minutes. There were no firefighter or occupant injuries reported. The occupants are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross. The fire is under investigation by the Stafford County Fire Marshal’s Office. Crews were assisted on scene by Fauquier County Fire and Rescue.

Then, just after 1PM, Brady says units were dispatched for a reported brush fire along I-95 southbound in the area of Centreport Parkway. Units arrived to find a quickly moving brushfire, due to windy and dry conditions, in the area of the southbound lanes and southbound off-ramp. Crews worked through water supply issues–no hydrants in the immediate area–high temperatures, and steep terrain to bring the fire under control. Two lanes of I-95 were shut down to allow crews to work, as well as the exit ramp.
