The Woman’s Club of Fredericksburg presented Lisa Durham the 2023-24 President’s Award for Woman of the Year on May 15.
This award is bestowed on a woman who made major contributions to preserve and enhance the quality of life in the greater Fredericksburg community through leadership and community service.
Durham became an active contributor to the community’s health and well-being when she relocated to Fredericksburg while simultaneously caring for her husband and three children.
The award announcement states that Durham’s dedication, commitment and service to the community is far reaching, including assisting in the the upcoming commemoration weekend in November honoring Gen. Lafayette’s historic visit to Fredericksburg.
Durham is also involved in St. George Episcopal Church’s feeding ministry called “The Table,” which serves hundreds of food insecure families in the region. Durham manages the operations and fundraising efforts and she also assists in procurement, coordination and delivery of fresh produce at seven sites that serve children, seniors and low-income families.
Additionally, Durham supports the Arts and Cultural Council of the Rappahannock Region. She is involved in the refurbishing of the Johnny P. Johnson mural on Sophia Street, which honors the late artist.
Durham also organizes the annual Porch Fest, a celebration of music and community, and is a member of the Rappahannock Rotary Club satellite branch.
