The Fredericksburg Police Department is investigating a shooting Thursday afternoon in the 400 block of Gates Street.
Police responded to the area at approximately 4:30 p.m. after receiving a 911 call from a man who said he was shot by an unknown assailant. Patrol officers rendered first aid to the victim until EMS personnel arrived.
A detective was requested to assist with the investigation. The victim, described as a Black male, was taken to a nearby hospital and underwent surgery. He remains hospitalized and is recovering from the procedure.
The police department requests that anyone with information on the shooting call (540) 373-3122 and select Option 2. Anonymous tips can be made by texting 847-411 and writing “FPDtip” followed by the information. There is also a free FPD Tip app available for Android and iPhones.
