Early voting for the June 18 primary elections starts statewide today, running until June 15. Voters can find their polling place here.

In the Fredericksburg region, voters can cast a ballot in either the Republican or Democratic primary for the 7th Congressional District seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, currently held by Democrat Abigail Spanberger. Spanberger is seeking the Democratic nomination for governor.

On the Democratic side, seven candidates are on the ballot: Eugene Vindman, Margaret Franklin, Elizabeth Guzman, Clifford Heinzer, Briana Sewell, Carl Bedell and Andrea Bailey. According to the Virginia Public Access Project (VPAP), Vindman has raised nearly $3.8 million, far exceeding his six opponents — combined.

Republicans, meanwhile, will choose from six candidates: Derrick Anderson, Cameron Hamilton, Maria Martin, Jonathon Myers, John Prabhudoss and Terris Todd. According to VPAP, Anderson — who finished second in the 2022 Republican primary — has raised the most among Republican candidates with $888,595.

While there are no local races in the city of Fredericksburg or in Stafford and Spotsylvania counties, Republicans will also hold a statewide primary to select a candidate for U.S. Senate. The candidate who emerges will face incumbent Democrat Tim Kaine.

Hung Cao, Jonathan Emord, Eddie Garcia, Scott Parkinson and Chuck Smith are vying for their party’s nomination. VPAP has Cao, who has raised just over $2 million, as a more than 2-to-1 leading fundraiser in the primary.

The general election will be held on Nov. 5.
