Early in the morning on this day in 1865, John Wilkes Booth–the man who killed President Lincoln–died on the Garrett farm in Caroline County, between Bowling Green and Port Royal. The site is not accessible. There’s a sign on northbound 301 near where the house once stood. There’s a hinge from the barn where John Wilkes Booth was shot and bricks from the home at the Port Royal Museum of American History.
