Fredericksburg artist Bill Harris said the mural has deteriorated over the past six years because of moisture in the cinder blocks. RappArts, the Arts & Cultural Council of the Rappahannock, has been raising money to restore it.
The mural has now been covered, and this spring Harris will begin work on a new mural — using the same picture.
