The Stafford County Board of Supervisors announced the appointment of Craig Meadows as the interim county administrator, effective April 3. Meadows has served in the public sector for more than 34 years in North Carolina and Virginia. He recently retired after 14 years as Montgomery County, Virginia’s county administrator.
Meadows served on the Montgomery County Economic Development Authority, the Montgomery Regional Tourism Board, the Virginia Association of Counties, the Virginia Local Government Management Association, and the International City/County Management Association.
A news release from the board stated that Meadows’ “extensive knowledge of local governance and proven track record of success make him an excellent choice to lead Stafford and work with the Board during this transitional period.”
“We are delighted to welcome Craig to Stafford County,” board Chair Meg Bohmke said. “His experience and knowledge of public service make him the ideal candidate to lead our county during this critical time. We look forward to working closely with Craig to address the challenges and opportunities facing our community.”
The Board of Supervisors initiated a national search for a new county administrator. The search will be conducted with the assistance of Baker Tilly, a professional recruitment firm specializing in executive searches for local government positions.
“I am honored that the Stafford County Board of Supervisors has selected me to serve the county in this interim role,” Meadows said. “I am excited to work with the board and the employees of the county in bringing exemplary services to Stafford’s citizens and businesses. I look forward to getting to know the community and sharing my expertise to strengthen the county organization.”
Meadows takes up the role after the departure of Randy Vosburg who resigned in February. Vosburg began his role as county administrator in July 2022, when he replaced the interim administrator, Mike Smith. Vosburg was recently named the new town manager for Apex, North Carolina.
