The Spotsylvania County Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing to discuss the real estate tax rate Thursday night at Courtland High School at 6:30 p.m.
The board voted in February to advertise a rate of 78 cents per $100 of assessed value. County Administrator Ed Petrovich proposed a rate of 75 cents per $100 of assessed value.
Board members cannot approve a higher rate than what was advertised but they can lower it.
Spotsylvania County Public Schools have a budget gap of nearly $47 million.
At two special meetings earlier this week, Acting Superintendent Kelly Guempel and School Board Chair and Vice Chair Lorita Daniels and Nicole Cole, respectively, encouraged the community to attend the public hearing to advocate on the school division’s behalf.
The $825.1 million budget is set for adoption on April 9.
