From Germanna Community College:

84 Lumber, the nation’s largest privately held supplier of building materials, is investing in the future of college students by donating $50,000 to Germanna Community College’s Germanna Guarantee Scholarship Program.

Since at least 1999, 84 Lumber has made contributions to Germanna Community College’s Germanna Guarantee Scholarship Program and other initiatives that benefit the program. 84 Lumber’s business partners at Culpeper Wood Preservers and Jefferson Homebuilders are also donating $100,000.

This gift of opportunity will give hope to these students and their families,” said Maggie Hardy, owner and CEO of 84 Lumber. “They’re the promise of America’s tomorrow.”

With locations in the city of Fredericksburg and the counties of Stafford, Spotsylvania, Culpeper, Orange, Madison, King George and Caroline, the college’s Germanna Guarantee Scholarship Program has assisted students in need of financial assistance for the past 29 years, furthering their education at the college. In the last year alone, more than 500 students were awarded aid, with the average amounting to $1,100 per student. In all, the GGSP has been able to award more than $4 million in scholarships to more than 5,000 students.

“The Germanna Educational Foundation is deeply grateful for the generosity of 84 Lumber with this transformational gift,” said Bruce Davis, special assistant to the president at Germanna Community College.  It will eliminate economic barriers to dozens of students, which keeps them on track for graduation, rather than delaying the process due to a shortfall of money. This is critical for our local economy, helping to create a steady pipeline of people entering the workforce.”
