From Fredericksburg Police:
On Friday, December 15th at approximately 5:30 a.m., the Fredericksburg Police Department began receiving multiple calls from the Preserve at Smith Run neighborhood regarding a male tampering with their vehicles.
Eyewitnesses and video surveillance showed the suspect was a black male wearing dark clothing and a blue bandanna. Officer Funez quickly located a person matching the suspect’s description in the immediate area of the crime. The person was identified as Davone Addison, 31, of Fredericksburg. Officer Bach led the investigation and charged Addison with five counts of vehicle tampering, seven counts of entering a motor vehicle without authorization, and two counts of larceny. Addison remains incarcerated at the Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
While everyone is in the holiday spirit, staying mindful and practicing vehicle safety is important. Remember:….
• Keep your vehicle locked at all times. Unlocked vehicles are easy targets for criminals
• Never leave valuables like purses, laptop computers, portable music players, or cash in your vehicle. If you are in a situation where you have to keep valuables in your car, place them in the trunk or entirely out of view
• Do not leave book bags, gym bags, or luggage in view as criminals assume they contain valuables
• File a police report if items are stolen from your vehicle. Stolen items are often recovered and can be returned to their owner. However, if stolen items are not reported to the police, there is no way for things to be returned. If an item is stolen from you in the City of Fredericksburg, call our non-emergency line at 540-373-3122
