From Spotsylvania Fire, Rescue and Emergency Management
This morning at 7:00 a.m., the services we provide to our community took a significant step forward. Dedicated 24/7 independent staffing of Ladder 6, Engine 6, and Ambulance 6 became a reality. Prior to this at Station 6, only one suppression piece was staffed along with the ambulance.
The independent staffing of these two suppression pieces will increase reliability of available units in this district, reducing response times, while also speeding up the time it takes to assemble the necessary staffing on the scene of a fire. In the coming months, we anticipate staffing a second ambulance in this station as well, to adequately manage the high volume of calls in this district.
These are the first steps in an effort to independently staff our “specialty” apparatus, such as our Aerials and Heavy Rescues, to meet the growing needs of our community and provide the levels of service demanded. Planning is underway to provide independent staffing for one of our Heavy Rescues in the next budget year.
