Beginning this Sunday, travelers will encounter brief overnight delays on Route 1 northbound and southbound in Stafford County between Layhill Road and the Potomac Creek bridge as crews resurface the road and freshen lane markings.
Work will be underway for approximately four weeks, through early September.
Most lane closures for this work zone have been scheduled to occur overnight between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. on Sunday through Thursday evenings, ending early Friday morning each week. If traffic conditions permit, daytime work may be underway on Mondays through Thursdays between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.
The approximately 1.6-mile resurfacing effort on Route 1 will cover 7 lane miles of road at an estimated cost of $1.3 million. The project contractor is Superior Paving.
Work will start next week at the Route 1, Enon Road and Cranes Corner Road. intersection.
