From Stafford County Schools
The Virginia Talent + Opportunity Partnership (V-TOP) Stafford County Public Schools among its 100 recipients of the 2023 Top Virginia Employers for Interns Awards. The annual award recognizes Virginia employers who provide high-quality internships to students. Stafford Schools was the only school system to be awarded with this distinction.
“At Stafford Schools, we ensure meaningful post-secondary outcomes for every student so that they are prepared for life after graduation. We accomplish that in part through our Work-Based Learning program, which provided nearly 50 opportunities for student internships last year,” said Dr. Thomas W. Taylor, Stafford Schools. “We are honored to be recognized among this distinguished group of employers.”
Work Based Learning consists of school-coordinated workplace experiences that relate directly to students’ career goals and/or interests, are integrated with instruction, and performed in partnership with local businesses and organizations. Stafford Schools provides opportunities for internships in all 12 Virginia Department of Education recognized experiences: guest speakers, structured field trips, internships, job shadowing, mentorship, externships, clinical experience, school-based enterprise, service learning, and apprenticeship.
“All the award winners demonstrate a commitment to meaningful internships,” said Peter Blake, State Council of Higher Education for Virginia director. “High-quality internships enhance a student’s educational experience and strengthen our workforce.”
