Fredericksburg Academy, the leading independent school in the Fredericksburg region, is seeking a full-time Director of Facilities beginning in June of 2023. The Director of Facilities reports directly to the Head of School and is responsible for the oversight of the physical plants, building maintenance, campus grounds, transportation service, and campus security.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
o Oversee the physical operation of the entire school and its programs
o Manage the maintenance of the buildings and grounds and cleaning programs that keep the school’s appearance in exemplary condition
o Ensure facility readiness for day-to-day events as well as special events
o Maintain public safety on campus and assist in the review and execution of the school’s crisis management plan
o Devise and manage annual departmental budget
o Supervise staff members within the facilities department
o Arrange bids and develop specifications for all outside contractual work
o Oversee the work of all outside contractors to ensure compliance with contractual agreements and budgetary restrictions
o Develop, implement, and maintain an ongoing equipment replacement program
o Establish policies and protocol that meet all required environmental, health, and maintenance standards as required by law and work with the administration to ensure compliance with all regional, state, and federal regulations and laws as they impact the school
o Serve on the administrative team supporting the Board of Trustees
o Manage fleet usage and ensure all vehicles are safe, clean, and meet all regulations as deemed by the Department of Motor Vehicles
o Assume responsibility for other projects as assigned by the Head of School
Requirements/Qualifications
o Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management or related discipline
o 3-5 years experience working in a supervision/management role in construction or maintenance/repair work
o Working knowledge of at least 3 trades (maintenance, plumbing, electrical, HVAC systems, carpentry, construction, or landscape management)
o Prior experience in an educational setting or similar organization
o Strong supervisory, organizational, technical, and analytical skills
o Proven success managing and balancing an annual budget
o Strong interpersonal and communications skills, both written and verbal
o Problem solver with a high degree of diplomacy
o Experience with blueprints and building specifications
o Detail oriented
Position Type: Administration
Contract: 12-month, full time
