I-95 Southbound

 

Exit 148 (Quantico) to Exit 143 (Aquia/Garrisonville)

Tuesday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 10 a.m. and Thursday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 6 a.m. and Friday – Saturday, 10 p.m. – 7 a.m. Single lane closure between interchanges for construction on the 95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension project.

Exit 143 (Aquia/Garrisonville) to Exit 140 (Courthouse Road)

Tuesday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 10 a.m. Single lane closure at mile markers 143-141 for construction on the 95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension project, except for Friday morning, when all lanes open at 6 a.m.

Exit 140 (Courthouse Road) to Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway)

Wednesday – Thursday, 6:30 a.m. – 10 a.m. Single lane closure at mile markers 140-138 for construction on the 95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension project.

Exit 140 (Courthouse Road) to Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway)

Thursday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 6 a.m. Lane closures are scheduled at mile markers 140-138 for the 95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension project. Crews will be restriping pavement near the American Legion Road overpass at the following times:

  • 9 p.m. – Single lane closure
  • 10 p.m. – Double lane closure
  • Midnight – 3 a.m. Full traffic stops for up to 30-minute intervals
  • 4:30 a.m. – All lanes open

Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) to Exit 133 (Falmouth/Warrenton)

Tuesday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 10 a.m. Single lane closure between interchanges for barrier work for the 95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension.

Exit 126 (Spotsylvania) Off-Ramp

Tuesday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 10 a.m. Mobile lane closures on off-ramp between I-95 and Route 1 for barrier wall installation and removal of cleared trees and vegetation. Early construction activities for the I-95 southbound off-ramp widening and Route 1 southbound widening.

Exit 126 (Spotsylvania) and Exit 118 (Thornburg)

Sunday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. Single lane closure at the bridge over Ni River, located at mile marker 121, for replacement of bridge joints. Single lane closure begins at 9 p.m. followed by double lane closures at 10 p.m. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m.

I-95 Northbound

 

Exit 118 (Thornburg) and Exit 126 (Spotsylvania)

Sunday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. Single lane closure at the bridge over Ni River, located at mile marker 121, for replacement of bridge joints. Single lane closure begins at 9 p.m. followed by double lane closure at 10 p.m. All lanes reopen by 5 a.m.

Exit 118 (Thornburg) to Exit 126 (Spotsylvania)

Wednesday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. Double lane closure near the Route 17 (Mills Drive) overpass at mile marker 125. Crews will move a crane being used to build the new interstate overpass.

Exit 130 (Route 3) to Exit 133 (Falmouth/Warrenton)

Tuesday – Thursday, 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Single lane closure near Fall Hill Avenue overpass. Crews will refresh pavement markings as part of the I-95 Northbound Rappahannock River Crossing project.

Exit 133 (Falmouth/Warrenton) Off-Ramp

Tuesday, midnight – 3 a.m. The off-ramp from Interstate 95 northbound to exit 133 (Falmouth/Warrenton) in Stafford will be closed for three hours early Tuesday morning for construction on the I-95 Northbound Rappahannock River Crossing. Motorists will be directed to use exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) as an alternate exit.

Exit 133 (Falmouth/Warrenton) to Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway)

Tuesday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. Lane closures between interchanges for installation of overhead signs as part of the I-95 Northbound Rappahannock River Crossing project and 95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension.

  • 9 p.m. – Single lane closure
  • 10 p.m. – Double lane closure
  • Midnight – 3 a.m. Full traffic stops for up to 30-minute intervals
  • 4:30 a.m. – All lanes open
Stafford County

Route 3

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Lane closures and shoulder closures for utility work between Dairy Lane and Rumford Road.

Route 17 (Warrenton Road) Southbound

Tuesday – Thursday, 8 p.m. – 7 a.m. Southbound lane closures on Route 17 near the I-95 overpasses, between Sanford Drive and Short Street. Multiple construction activities for the I-95 Northbound Rappahannock River Crossing project, including grass seeding.

Route 17 Business (Warrenton Road) Southbound

Monday – Saturday, 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. Southbound Route 17 Business will be reduced to a single travel lane between Heartfields Lane and Washington Street for a road maintenance project.

Spotsylvania County

Route 1 Northbound and Southbound

Tuesday – Friday, 7 p.m. – 7 a.m. Mobile alternating single and double lane closures between Hood Drive and Spotsylvania Parkway for early construction activities for the I-95 southbound off-ramp widening and Route 1 southbound widening project. All northbound lanes of Route 1 reopen by 6 a.m.

Route 1 Business (Lafayette Boulevard) and Falcon Drive

Thursday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Shoulder closures at intersection for traffic signal work. Crews will have a right lane closed on Falcon Drive.

Route 208 (Courthouse Road)

Monday – Friday,  9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Right lane closure on eastbound Route 208 between Hood Drive and Route 1 for turn lane construction under permit.

Route 620 (Harrison Road)

Monday – Tuesday, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. Flaggers will alternate one-way traffic as needed for guardrail repair work about a quarter of a mile west of the Route 1 intersection.

Route 672 (Hall Industrial Drive)

Tuesday – Thursday, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. Flaggers will alternate one-way traffic through the work zone on Route 672 for shoulder work.

Route 673 (Piedmont Drive)

Thursday, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. Flaggers will alternate one-way traffic through the work zone near Fawn Circle. Guardrail repair.

Route 1160 (Duke of Gloucester Street)

Tuesday – Thursday, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. Flaggers will alternate one-way traffic through a pipe replacement work zone on Duke of Gloucester Street at the intersection with Buxley Court.

Caroline County

 

Route 1 Northbound

Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Survey and pipe work on Route 1 with single lane closures near the Ladysmith Center Shopping Mall and Collins Boulevard.

 

Route 639 (Ladysmith Road)

Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Motorists should be alert for travel lane shift and construction work along the shoulder near Green Street and Allen Street.

 

Pavement Marker Lens Placement

Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Mobile operation with brief lane closures. Flagging crew will direct traffic through the work zone along the following routes:

 

  • Route 1 Northbound and Southbound
  • Between Route 207 and Acorn Lane
  • Between Green Lane and the Spotsylvania County line
  • Route 2 between Mudd Tavern and Route 301
  • Route 207 between the Mattaponi River bridge and Route 652
  • Route 301 Northbound between Route 301 Business and Route 207
  • Route 301 Southbound between Route 301 Business and Chase Street

King George County

 

Route 3 Eastbound

Wednesday, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. Single lane closure near intersection with Ridegeway Drive. Guardrail replacement.

Route 218

Wednesday, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. Single lane closure on Route 218 near Vertical Ridge Road. One-way, alternating traffic directed by a flagging crew. Guardrail replacement.

Route 301 Northbound and Southbound

Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Mobile lane closures and shoulder closures on Route 301 between Barnhill Road and Roseland Road near the bridge approach to the new Nice/Middleton Bridge. Construction activities for the bridge replacement project.

Gloucester County

Route 33 Eastbound

Friday, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Guardrail replacement. Stay alert for crews working along the road shoulder approximately a half-mile west of Pierce Road.

Middlesex County

 

Route 17 Northbound

Tuesday –  Friday, 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Single lane closure between Diesel Drive and Dragon Drive, at bridge over Dragon Run swamp.

Northumberland County

 

Route 604 (Indian Valley Road) Road Closure

Starting Monday, Feb. 20: Road closure with detour. Crews will be closing Indian Valley Road to through traffic between Swan Way and Steamboat Lane to repair bridge scour, which is the erosion of soil around a bridge’s foundation. Route 605 (Balls Neck Road)

Reopens Monday, Feb. 20, weather permitting. Balls Neck Road is currently closed at the bridge over Mill Creek for repairs, but the road is scheduled to reopen to traffic on Monday, Feb. 20. Caroline County

Route 639 (Ladysmith Road) Widening

Construction is underway to widen Route 639 (Ladysmith Road) to four lanes between I-95 and just west of Route 1. A new raised median will separate eastbound and westbound lanes to allow for improved movement through the corridor. Additional left and right turn lanes will be built on Ladysmith Road at the Route 1 intersection. A shared use path, sidewalks, crosswalks, and pedestrian crossing equipment will be installed. The project is expected to be complete in May 2024.

 

Route 652 (Cool Water Drive) over Polecat Creek

Cool Water Drive closed to through traffic in March 2022 at the bridge over Polecat Creek due to significant deterioration in key bridge elements. Motorists should follow signs posted along the recommended detour route. Construction is underway. The new bridge is estimated to open to traffic in late August 2023.

Essex County

Route 612 (Bestland Road) Bridge Replacement Project

Route 612 (Bestland Road) is closed to through traffic through late June 2023 to replace a bridge over Dragon Run. The project is replacing the previous timber deck bridge with a new 48-foot concrete slab structure on concrete abutments and piles. Click here to view an online detour map.

Route 301 and the Nice-Middleton Bridge Replacement Project

The new Nice/Middleton Bridge is now open to traffic over the Potomac River. Road work continues on Route 301 near the approaches. Read MDTA’s release here.

Mathews County

 

Route 223 (Old Ferry Road) over Milford Haven at Gwynn’s Island

Temporary traffic signals are installed on Route 223 at each approach to the bridge over Milford Haven. One-way, alternating traffic will remain in place, controlled by the temporary signals, through April 2023 due to a bridge maintenance project. Bridge openings for marine traffic are suspended through April 2023. Two overnight bridge closures are scheduled from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 26-Monday, Feb. 27 and Tuesday, March 7-Wednesday, March 8.

Northumberland County

 

Route 604 (Indian Valley Road)

Indian Valley Road is scheduled to close to through traffic on Monday, Feb. 20. Crews will be repairing bridge scour, which is the erosion of soil around a bridge’s foundation. Richmond County

Route 637 (County Bridge Road)

County Bridge Road is closed to through traffic at the bridge over Cat Point Creek due to damage following heavy rain and flooding in summer 2021. A bridge replacement is under construction. County Bridge Road will remain closed to through traffic until the new bridge reopens by April 26, 2024.

Spotsylvania County

Route 1 and Commonwealth Drive

Be alert for construction activity on Route 1 near the Commonwealth Drive intersection, where work is underway to build a nearly 700-space Park & Ride commuter lot. Be alert for work zone barriers along the shoulders of Route 1, and for lanes shifted east near the Commonwealth Drive intersection. Project completion is anticipated in May 2023.

 

Route 17 (Mills Drive) Overpass Replacement and Widening

Construction started in Dec. 2020 to replace the existing two-lane interstate overpass on Route 17 with a four-lane bridge. Route 17 will be widened to four lanes until just east of the Hospital Boulevard/Germanna Point Drive intersection. Sidewalk, a shared-use path, and pedestrian crossing equipment will be added as part of the project. Improvements will be completed in Feb. 2024.

Route 606 (Mudd Tavern Road) Widening

Construction recently began to widen Mudd Tavern Road to four lanes between I-95 and Route 1. A new secondary access route, Route 2092, will be built parallel to Mudd Tavern Road, and will connect with South Roxbury Mill Road and Dan Bell Lane. Construction will be complete in May 2025. Westmoreland County

Route 658 (Monroe Bay Circle)

Route 658 (Monroe Bay Circle) closed to through traffic near Stoney Knoll on Dec. 22, 2022. The road was closed for motorist safety after a hole formed in the road, following a pipe failure at the crossing of Monroe Creek. A detour is posted along Route 1300 (Shore Drive) to Route 1308 (Rolando Drive) to Route 633 (Holly Vista Drive) to Route 628 (Stoney Knoll). The detour will remain in place until the road can be temporarily reopened. Installation of a temporary, single-lane bridge is planned, and once complete the road will reopen by late March 2023. The temporary bridge is a short-term solution until a permanent, long-term project can be advanced.
