We talked with Brooke Bowler of Dahlgren about the career fair at the Expo Center:

DAHLGREN, Va – Aspiring scientists, engineers and business professionals will enter a world of career possibilities when they meet with Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) recruiters at its Career Fair Tuesday, Jan. 24.
Candidates are encouraged to bring resumes and come prepared to talk with recruiters from NSWCDD at the event from 3-7 p.m. at the Fredericksburg Expo and Conference Center.
“Have you ever been curious about who Dahlgren is and what we do? This is your opportunity to come out and learn about what we get to do each and every day – whether you are looking for a full-time position, college summer internship or even a high school summer internship. There is something for everyone,” Brooke Bowler, NSWCDD recruiting lead, said.
NSWCDD has a broad and diverse research, development, test and evaluation portfolio, with an emphasis on warfare systems development and integration. The division leads as Virginia’s largest federal research and development employer with an annual budget of $1.9 billion.
Recruiters will be available from NSWCDD’s seven technical departments – Strategic and Computing Systems, Electromagnetic and Sensor Systems, Integrated Engagement Systems, Weapons Control and Integration, Warfare Analysis and Digital Modeling, Readiness and Training Systems and Integrated Combat Systems – as well as its Business Operations Departments made up of Comptroller, Contracts and Human Resources. Human Resource Representatives will be available to address NSWCDD’s benefits package and student opportunities.
“As a candidate, this event really allows you to learn and experience all that Dahlgren has to offer,” Bowler said.
Each department will have a recruiting team of at least five – one lead who keeps track of candidate names of interest to the department, recruiters and interviewers. Candidates may have the opportunity to be interviewed in an interview room and given an on-the-spot offer.
In June 2022, there was 175 candidates and recruiters made 27 on-the-spot job offers. Another 100 candidates registered to have their information reviewed by hiring managers. Bowler said she would like to match or slightly exceed the number of candidates this year. In addition to the Career Fair in 2022, there was a Human Resources Strategic Sourcing event of which NSWCDD made 70 offers to candidates it met at recruiting fairs at 27 colleges and universities in the Fall.
Today, the following career opportunities lie in all fields of science and engineering: aerospace, combat systems, computer, cyber, electrical, human factors, industrial systems, mechanical, modeling and simulation, network, optical, radio frequency, software, system safety and systems engineering; artificial intelligence and machine learning; biology; data science; game developer; material science; math; operations research; and physics.
Business operations opportunities include accounting, contract specialists, environmental/safety, facilities, financial analysts, general business, human resources/labor employee relations/staffing/recruiting, logistics, procurement specialist, project/program management, and property management.
In the technical field, NSWCDD is looking for engineering technicians and IT specialists.
